Welcome to Christchurch Quilters Inc.

The aim of our group is to provide and share friendship and the knowledge of patchwork and quilting.  We welcome quilters of all abilities and experience.

Monthly meeting

Our main meeting is held on the first Tuesday of every month (except January) at 7:30 pm in the Philatelic Society Rooms, 67 Mandeville Street. Parking is on the street.

Each meeting we have “Show and Tell”, raffles, information about upcoming classes and anything that may be of interest to Quilters.  The meetings can be lots of fun.  Our extensive Library is available each meeting for members to browse and borrow from.  We always have guest speakers or demonstrations of new techniques and equipment at our meetings and quite often there are Sales Tables.

Workshops and classes

Many of our members have special talents they are willing to share.  We also organize classes with local, national and overseas experts.  All classes are advised in our bi-monthly Newsletter.

Venue: Hohepa Canterbury, 23 Barrington Street (river end), Christchurch.  It is like a retreat in the city.  We have the facility from 9.00am until 4.00pm.

What to bring: Lunch, a mug, extension cord and multi-box.  Sewing machine and all associated things you need.  Most importantly your charming personality.

Sit and Sew: Held monthly, bring your own work and everything you need. No charge.

Class times: 9.30am to 3.30pm

If there is something you wish to learn or teach please contact  Judith Baxter.

We generally hold the Workshops/Sit and Sew on the 3rd Saturday of the month however this year there are some exceptions: January, July and December have no workshops

Whisper Project

This year the club is running a Whisper Project, we are sorted into groups and all make a single 12 x 12 inch quilt inspired by the image the previous person sends us

Bi-Annual Show

Every second year we hold a Quilt Exhibition which runs for four days.  Members are encouraged to enter into various categories.  There is always a Guest Exhibitor.  Full details are advertised in the CQ Newsletter.

Community Quilts

Our members regularly make quilts for donation to charity,

We can assist members with fabric donations for the quilt tops as well as having access to batting  and quilters who are happy to quilt them
